my first J.J. cassette
I discovered Cale when i was 11 in '91 when i was getting fitted for a school play costume at our costume makers house. she was listening to travel-log and i heard 'lady luck' and asked what it was. I am so glad that i asked cause everyone should know J.J. Cale, hardly anyone i ask does.
This is chilled out music with a distinctive guitar sound that seems unique to Cale, its easy to see why clapton rates him so much.
There is a plethora of albums to choose from, most of which are numbered. Travel-log was my first, on cassette. i bought it on CD so i can listen to it in my car.
Lady luck was the song that hooked me, i defy anyone to hear it without getting drawn in. its got a shuffly drum beat and a great bassline to go with. Cale has a modest vocal style as if he wants the music to lead, it all comes together so well. end of the line is so laid back you cant help but nod and tap along. No time is another great example of his cool style. i cant think of any songs i dont like, its all so likeable.when i stick on a Cale cd i feel like i never
need to listen to anything else again!buy some, any Cale album would be a safe bet if you like bluesy, laid back cool desert music, he's been around for ages, quietly making some of the best tunes out there. spread the word!

the cure-THE singles
0 of 1 found this helpful this compilation album is totally brilliant!
"the singles" showcases the cures early music perfectly and when listening to it all the way through you can hear the changes in the bands music as the eighties got older.
songs like 'charlotte sometimes' and 'night like this' have a goth feel to them and others are upbeat and cheery like the classic 'lovecats','close to me' and 'in between days'. some songs seem beautifully nonsensical, like 'the caterpillar' and others have something to say, like 'jumping someone elses train'.
I cant fault this, i remember the first cure song i ever heard and it was lullaby, which unfortunately is not on this album, but i fell in love when i heard close to me as a child at butlins. i played catch up with the earlier albums and this comp. has a really good cross section of their early music.
i love it, nostalgia trip for those like me born right at the end of the 70s.
GO BUY IT!

ozric tentacles - afterwish
i bought this cd because i had it already had it but i somehow (weirdly) ended up with 2x cd 2 (!) my fave song was on the lost cd.
I would reccomend the ozrics to anyone because the music is unique, uplifting and thoroughly enjoyable. you can just imagine the band having so much fun playing the songs. it makes me think of festivals and psychadelic t-shirts.
this particular compilation is good because it features a good range of their early stuff. check out `hup ho`, love it!
