A very useful gadget
This gives a good, steady, even light, It will clip onto a music stand or even a large music folder. Invaluable when singing in a poorly lit hall or church.

Christmas Carol - mainly by Dickens.
The story was, as usual with Dickens adaptations, "based upon" rather then being a faithful screen adaptation of the original story. However, the sets were wonderful - filmed in Shrewsbury, a town I know well - and there was some good acting. But why, O why, did they have to use an American actor in the principal role? Americans can never, never, never get English vowels right. You always get "hat water" instead of "hot water" etc. Imagine this film with, say, Peter Cushing instead of Mr Scott - what a treat that would be!

Carrington - the film.
A very well researched and well presented film about some very complex relationships. Emma Thompson is incapable of doing anything badly, and Jonathan Pryce was an excellent Lytton Strachey to her Dora Carrington. Other parts were also beautifully played. Penelope Wilton as Lady Ottoline Morrell, and Rufus Sewell as Mark Gertler were, I thought, exceptional.
Michael Holroyd's biography of Lytton Strachey, which was the main source for the film, is a thick volume, and so the makers of the film had to cut back radically. I thought presenting a series of cameos, rather than a connected biography, was a very good way of doing so.
