An old Flame
When it comes to gas-filled candles, there doesn't seem to be much choice out there. This one was under a tenner & is good value for money. It fills from a standard butane gas refill & has a valve situated in the neck, which is turned to set the flame height. There is also a safety cut-off under the base, so if you lift it when it's on, it will go out (remeber to shut the valve though). It looks & feels robust & should last a few years, I hope!
Good value.

A Genie for the lamp!
The Aladdin 23 is one of a small number of oil lamps that require a mantle in order to make it work properly. This is a branded mantle; it's well-made & fits easily. These genuine products vary in price, but I paid under £13.00 for mine, & that is very good value.

The good old days!
Modern, non-stick lightweight pans are OK, but don't seem to give the same heat retention & even heat spread as a good, old-fashioned iron pan. It has to be stated that an iron pan is very heavy & of course, the handle gets almost as hot as the bottom of the pan (remember to use oven gloves!).
OK, so that's my reasons for buying one & when I use mine I am certainly glad I bought it (& it wasn't too expensive either). It isn't a griddle pan & that's another reason for the purchase. Bacon especially cooks beautifully, but most other meats do too. Eggs can be a bit messy, so I use a non-stick pan for those. Where the iron pan excells is when I cook casseroles. It's deep enough to make a generous 4-serving casserole & they always come out well.
Cleaning is a bit of a chore, but use a Scotch pad or scrub & dry the pan with kitchen towel. When finished, lightly oil the inside with cooking oil to prevent any rust forming.
