Vintage Icom IC-706 HF/VHF Transceiver NICE UNIT with Paperwork
12 Mar, 2016
Still one of the best transceivers out there!
Although many CB'ers buy the IC-706 because it can be modified for use on CB bands at 100 watts, it is still one of the best, most reliable, easy-to-operate Ham radios ever made. Compact, yet solid as a rock, the receiver sensitivity alone rivals many of the more modern rigs out there. This is the perfect radio for Technician Class operators, allowing them to use the 50MHz and 144MHz bands and then migrate to HF when they get their General Class. I have two of them--one mobile and one in a solar-assisted man-pack for DXpeditions /hiking/camping. SInce there are many of them out there in operation, parts and service are readily available, though parts like the Separation Cable and filters can get expensive. Even so, general repairs to the finals and front end are relatively inexpensive. If you find one at a decent price, then go for it--you won't be sorry!
