A superb purchase.
It is sturdy, heavy, well-made and realistic looking with a lovely flow of splashing water. We are thrilled with it!

Not as I remember school in Liverpool.
This was an enjoyable and interesting read, although I began to question whether Bernadette really was from Liverpool or merely name-checking some famous landmarks. For example, Huyton is certainly not in “one of Liverpool’s toughest slum areas”! It was a very pleasant village just outside Liverpool that still retains many of the quaint features; but if the school where she worked was in the adjoining council estate of Page Moss, it was still no worse than the nearby council estate of Dovecot where I grew up.
I’m the same age as she but I don’t recognise her description of shoeless or starving children in the 50s – never mind the 60s! I was from a family of 6 siblings who wore shabby, patched, ill-fitting hand-me-down clothes and shoes, and we possibly might have qualified for free school dinners but I never saw any ‘free dinners’ queues.
The author was told that the children were used to seeing rats in the stockroom, but these would have been a serious health risk, so why weren’t the pest-controllers called in? I never ever saw rats in any of my schools! Why didn’t the author report such primitive conditions to Prime Minister Harold Wilson, in whose constituency she was working?
What a saint the author was to provide biscuits and clothing to her needy pupils; finding the time to launder their soiled clothing in school time, and giving reading lessons to the school cleaner after hours.
Would the leaving party cake at the Strawberry Field children’s home still be edible after being frozen and redecorated on numerous occasions?
I suspect that the author’s memories have been greatly exaggerated for dramatic effect.

Would recommend.
Really well made with a wide range of settings and long rechargeable battery capacity.
