Frequency counter kit
1 of 1 found this helpful This kit is simple to assemble following the markings on the PCB, and I had no trouble getting it to work first time.
That said, the device has some limitations. It measures frequency in multiples of 16Hz, so it is only accurate to +/- 8Hz. This might be acceptable at high frequencies, but down at the low audio end it is really only an indicator that an alternating voltage is present. The device seems to be quite fussy in the signal strength/voltage applied to the input, and it took some experimentation to find the best capacitor to use in my application (an audio signal generator). The display only lasts for a few seconds before the switch has to be pressed to restart the display. It only seems to work for sine waves, and gave up when switched to square wave signals at the same frequency.
The device is probably aimed more at the high-frequency measurement market, as it is stated to go to 50 MHz.

Canon Digital IXUS 60
1 of 1 found this helpful This is the last vest-pocket-sized camera to have an optical viewfinder - this allows you to see the subject properly when the sun is too bright on the rear screen. The pictures are excellent, clear and sharp, and the choice of focussing object is usually sensible. It's worth a bit of extra effort to get to know the manual controls for special types of picture, but as an overall point & shoot witha decent zoom function, it's excellent.

Temperature-controlled soldering iron
Excellent value , does what it says on the tin. I set mine to 300 deg C which seems to be right for most things - soldering and desoldering. Heats up very quickly and maintains a stable temperature. Just one niggle: the sponge tray rusts very quickly, so it's worth painting it with a good paint like Hammerite before putting a wet sponge into it. A pity it's not plastic or stainless steel. Otherwise, an excellent substitute for far more expensive. Options.
