Collins Robert French
As it should, this book contains an introduction to French culture. which is very different from English culture. Of course focused on words and phrases, but with studious use allows the reader entry to latinate thinking! Not a phrase book to get you through a short holiday, a tome, heavy in all senses, to help bridge the Channel.

The Entertainer
Clive James, despite his myriad talents, considered himself a poet. His own poetic output was prodigious, so he knew a thing or two about the art. He also had a dramatic life and the open mind and heart to express our condition poignantly and accurately.
