Nice Dedication to the Shuttle Program
1 of 2 found this helpful A shabby box didn't dull the impact of this model. Carefully handled during construction, it will give a wonderful look for a hobby room when set for display. A true challenge to build, but worth the effort when the final product is displayed.

Cultish Movie with LOTS of pluses
Truly iconic movie about good versus evil. Some excellent actors who later became much bigger after their relatively unnoticed roles in this cult classic. Ian McKellan, Jurgen Prochnow, Gabriel Byrne, Scott Glenn and Alberta Watson all went on to bigger and more well-known parts in later years. The story of this movie pits bad guys injecting themselves into a local culture with terrifying results. The bad part of this particular disc is that it still has no subtitles, which would help immensely in understanding the characters and story. For some reason, actors seem to have to whisper all the time for dramatic effect. However, the effect is lost if you can't hear them or read a subtitle to know what they are so intensely trying to say. The very good part is the alternate ending, though the picture quality on that part is terrible. That alternate ending would have been much preferred over the one they chose with everyone ending up with nothing but their lives. Killing off the hero, though he died heroically truly stinks in this show. Should have used the alternate.

1 of 1 found this helpful I first saw this movie in the theater in Toledo, OH where I grew up. It was positively breathtaking on te big screen, and I finally recalled how scary the climbing scenes were and the excitement that they held for the viewer. Knowing now that Clint Eastwood did the climbing scenes and that much of the show was filmed in the Swiss Alps at the REAL Eiger, which had claimed dozens of climbers' lives over the years... Well, it gave me even more respect for this fine actor and director. The final scene remembers an actual event in the past at the railroad tunnel window, very similar to the part of the movie it is in. So, easy to see that the producers and actors definitely did their homework for this movie, and the results were a first-rate picture.
Of course there are the typical Eastwood fare of tough-guy subplots, and nitwit toadies from the sleazy director of the intelligence agency to the largely inept messenger simply reinforced the fact that this is an EASTWOOD movie. It's all right because the scenery, the exciting climbing scenes, and the final surprise ending allow us to enjoy a pretty good story, while being able to fall back on all of the Eastwood stock side story lines.
A good five bucker, on my scale of how much I'd pay to see it again at the theater....
