Should be considered VHF ONLY?
It may be that I just had a faulty unit but the manufactures description implies that this is usable over the entire band, 125-525mHz, with an accuracy of less than 10%. It may be correct at certain VHF spot frequencies but I found this to be wildly inaccurate at UHF frequencies.
4 watts (handheld) in at 462 reads as 10watts. 4 watts in at 432 reads as 17w! (20w range had to be used as the 5w scale needle bangs hard over)
I am using a Bird 50w oil filled load and a type 43 meter as comparison. (And others )
There is no `band switch' or separate pot to adjust. A VHF only Diamond SX200 gives exactly the same response - 5w is 5w on VHF, 4watts UHF reads more than 20watts!
I thought I was going to be able to use it as a generally useful piece of test equipment for vhf/uhf without having to carry or change separate elements or meters.
Not so! It seems the rules of Physics can't be cheated.
