Good value for a budget starter coop
1 of 1 found this helpful Given that all coops in this price range are going to be Chinese imports, I was fairly impressed. It is well designed and quick to assemble, especially with an electric screwdriver. Each piece feels lightweight - it is thin pine after all - but once constructed it feels fairly robust.
One panel had a strut glued/screwed in the wrong place, and needed unscrewing/sawing away and re-screwing in the correct. There was also no pin to connect the two pieces of the sliding door mechanism; a little piece of garden wire works just fine.
For this price, you cannot expect this coop to be rock solid and last forever! It is strong enough to keep chickens in (they’re not famous for their strength...). It will deter foxes, dogs etc. but if you want “fox-PROOF” you need welded wire, which adds to the cost. If you’ve got mink etc. nearby, you’ll need wire covering the ground too. I fully expect to need to fix struts here and there after a couple of years, but I wanted this as a quick-to-erect basis for potentially strengthening/adapting over the years, and for that it’s fine. You certainly couldn’t build a better coop for less money, particularly after factoring in the time it would take to design, measure, cut all the pieces.
