SM-1
Great instrument. Reminds me heavily of the old ESP Horizon models, but with a thinner body. The SM, or Stage Master, is in fact an older Kramer carve-top design that ESP used to make the bodies for (though that was a long time ago in the mid to late 1980's). Its a mid height carve top that feels just right, its the perfect height for good body clearance and still have it feel personal and close to the player (not like a Les Paul, which definitely feels like a brick of wood). The neck is slim, but not as slim as I feel they want you to believe. Dont expect a Grover-Jackson thin D shape, this is definitely NOT that. Its a rounded C, thin for it's type, but not the kind you'd expect from a shredder. The pickups are EMG, Im not the biggest fan. They sound thin and tinney, though I know some people like EMG. The white one comes with Seymour Duncan, I definitely would have preferred that but oh well. Its a rewire project for me I guess. There are nice extra touches as well, like the allen tools on the back of the headstock, the old style Kramer block logo, an original Floyd Rose and a unique switching system. I got this for $680 or so and I feel that is a very fair price for the unit. $750 is the high end for the piece, I feel, even though I believe they were more expensive than that originally.
