About Ben Sherman
This iconic, predominantly menswear, fashion brand was founded in Brighton in 1963 by Ben Sherman (born in the town as Arthur Benjamin Sugarman). He noticed that many jazz fans were buying shirts worn by the stars, but these were only available as imports, so he decided to produce his own, often higher-quality, alternatives.
The Ben Sherman label now produces a wide range of suits and casual wear, shoes and accessories. Their suits range in style from traditional such as navy chalk or black pinstripes, through stylish slim-fits to full evening dress. Blazers are also an option. You might imagine yourself in one of their legendary Harrington Retro Mod jackets, or you may prefer a heavier brown or black leather or lightweight cotton option.
Ben Sherman isn't exclusively a male fashion label and ladies' designer, flared, or bootcut jeans are popular choices. Stonewashed, denim, distressed, and other mens' jeans are also available. Above the waist, their jumpers and tees are both comfortable and stylish. V-necks and crews, chunky knits and Fair Isle, Argyle, zipped and cardigan ranges are all classic Ben Sherman styles. A wide range of Mod target t-shirts (think of the legendary RAF roundel) have long been a key part of their collection. Add to this some plain cotton polo shirts, and tees with a Union Jack motif, and there are certainly plenty of choices.
A pair of shoes can help complete the Ben Sherman image. Brown and black leather, or suede, lace-ups, moccasins, loafers, brogues, slip-ons, and the occasional trainers are all available. Add to this a choice of belts and wallets, and you, or the one you're buying for, can present themselves in a complete 'Ben Sherman look'ÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂ.
