About Designer Mens Wallets

Various forms of what eventually became the wallets we know today, used as convenient carrying pouches for provisions and small personal items, can be traced back as far as Ancient Greece. During the Renaissance the design of wallets began to adapt to accommodate coins and statements of accounts, which were a ready to hand means of demonstrating a person?s financial sufficiency. In the Elizabethan era there are records of leather pouches called a bowgett (or ?budget? today) in which coinage, personal accounts and other small, useful articles were stored. This was kept fixed to the belt, where fashion dictated it would remain until well into the 19th century. What we think of as a wallet today primarily developed in the USA of the early industrial era. The modern bifold wallet, in which banknotes are folded over and which has various internal pockets and may contain a coin purse compartment, was standardised in the 1950s, not coincidentally the decade when credit cards were first introduced. Traditionally made from either leather or fabric, although finely woven metals can be used, the bifold is the most common type, although trifold wallets, in which credit cards stand vertically, and the breast or secretary wallet, which is longer to accommodate unfolded banknotes, remain popular. Most of the well known designers, such as Prada, Hugo Boss, Ballini, Santos, Armani and Ralph Lauren offer both seasonal and ongoing collections of their wallets, with their beauty, elegance, luxury and craftsmanship being major selling points. Available are a wide range of designs and colours, many bearing their original tags and offered in their original presentation packaging.
