Women in the UK wore dungarees in factories as early as the First World War, and while this garment primarily served a protective purpose, it slipped into the mainstream as fashion. Denim dungarees for women are all too common, and they sell in different lengths, from full-length to short. When buying a used pair, pay particular attention to stitching, frayed ends, buckles, and buttons.

Pair you dungarees with a T-shirt or a vest, and look forward to complements that follow.

About Dungarees

Dungarees have been in and out of fashion since the early '60s, although their roots are derived from factories and workhouses to be worn as strong protective garments in tough cotton, linen or denim. First introduced around 1792 as 'overalls', dungarees with a 'bib and brace' look were also worn at the start of the 20th century along with 'coveralls' which were more like boiler suits. Women wore dungarees in England when working in factories during the First World War and they've more or less been around in Britain ever since. The latest incarnation of dungarees have come in softer fabrics, with some variations including patterned, more feminine styles worn by modern style icons such as Alexa Chung and Pixie Lott. Dungarees can be casual, and dressed up or down with accessories, t-shirts, vest tops, shirts, trainers or heels, making them quite a versatile piece. You can create your own style with the right pair of dungarees, and they can also look quite flattering. Another recent fashion trend is to have shorter length dungarees, cut-off dungarees, and adjustable cuff dungarees giving the garment a bit of an updated look. Dungaree-style pinafores are another hot trend that has been making the rounds, in plain, polka dot or patterned styles. These garments also make exceptionally cute garments for children and babies, and can come in many softer fabrics, along with the more traditional denim fashion look. They make delightful play clothes for a number of activities as they are mostly comfortable and versatile.
