An Ethernet cable creates wired connections between computers and modems, routers, and networks. Use a straight-through Ethernet cable to connect two different devices and crossover cable for two similar devices.

Determine the required length as well as the desired speed. Select the appropriate cable coating for your application: aerial duct, direct burial, and armoured cables for the outdoors or PVC cables for the indoors. Use an Ethernet cable when wireless is not possible and enjoy its higher speeds.
