Hermes is a French manufacturer of fashion and ready-to-wear clothing. The company sticks to what is now considered to be an old-fashioned style of manufacturing, and maintains its exclusivity through the rejection of mass production, and the refusal to use mechanisation to assist. Everything is hand-made, carefully put together by individual craftsmen, for a truly unique style every time. One of its most popular ranges is its leather accessories, which include handmade bags and belts. Because the company doesn't use assembly-line manufacturing, it constructs each item by hand, and every bag is carefully hand-stitched, taking up to 24 hours to produce just one. Around 30% of the company's output consists of leather goods. It also produces items made from silk, such as ties and cravats, and scarves. These are usually screen-printed individually, and are woven from the silk of 250 mulberry moth cocoons. Their hems are hand-stitched. Genuine Hermes scarves are 90 cm x 90 cm, and weigh 65 grams. The company has produced over 2,500 individual and very unique designs; some of these have been so popular that they have been reproduced by the company tens of thousands of times. Hermes also produces male, female, and unisex perfumes, and has designed more than 30 of these since 1951. Its clothing range includes woollens and knitted hats, shirts and polo shirts, trousers, jeans and jogging bottoms, as well as outer- and under-wear. Because of the handmade aspect of the clothing and accessories from Hermes, all items are extremely expensive, and very exclusive.
