Julia Donaldson is a British writer, play writer and performer and she is well known for her popular rhyming stories for children with unique illustrations. Julia Donaldson originally wrote childrenâs songs for television shows until her song âA Squash and a Squeezeâ was made into a book in 1993. Since then she has published 184 works with 64 widely available for purchase. The remaining books are kept for school use and include the songbirdâs phonic reading scheme part of the Oxford Reading Tree.
Julia Donaldson was born in 1948 and was raised in London, after attending university she had jobs in teaching, publishing and performing street theatre with her husband. Julia focused on bringing in experience from writing songs and theatre work with children to create a new career. Julia has worked with various illustrators to create engaging and appealing works for children, she also authored many educational books that help children to learn reading and writing.
