About Nicholas Mosse
Nicholas Mosse produces exquisite and functional pottery in the traditional Irish Spongeware style which dates back to the 18th century. Sought after by lovers of fine, individually hand crafted ceramics, the company has an enthusiastic following for their high quality products adorned with bright, vibrant designs.
Nicholas and Susan Mosse established their business in 1976. Potter Nicholas was trained in his craft in England and Japan. Botanical artist Susan personally creates each individual design, taking her inspiration from nature. These designs are sponge dabbed by hand into the wet clay. To this day the couple and their team produce every piece of pottery by hand in a twenty step process that takes place in their old water mill in County Kilkenny, Ireland. The mill?s hydro-electric power is used in firing the pottery.
Available are both new and used items of Nicholas Mosse pottery. There are mugs, jugs, bowls, storage containers, spoons, vases and night lamps from which to choose. These are designed for those who cherish traditional arts and crafts and appreciate the painstaking skill and pride which goes into each one of these hand made items.
A variety of patterns are offered such as the Old Rose, Fuchsia, Pink Peony, Red Tulip, Blue Pansy and more. There are also charming motifs such as the Cow in Pasture design and the teddy bears and balloons pattern used on a child?s night lamp. Some of these items are still in their original presentation packaging. Due to the limited production of the Nicholas Mosse company, many of the used items offered are comparatively scarce.
