Cheap Art From China - Is It Really A Bargain?

As a UK based artist who has sold Pop Art on Ebay for 7 years the current trend of cheap art from China dismays me.

Are these galleries really giving value for money and is it really cheaper than buying from a UK or EU seller.

All of our art comes on stretcher bars ready for hanging. When you read the small print on the Chinese auctions you find the painting is unstretched.

This means that you get a canvas rolled in a tube, certainly not ready for hanging. To the professional stretching over frames is easy but if done by the amateur your painting can become distorted and the paint can crack.

So are you getting a good deal?

£8.00 painting - great!

£28.00 postage - still fine!

£30.00 stretching - total £66.00

Mmm, could have bought one from a UK artist for the same price and not had the hassle of framing, the distorted face or cracked paint.
