Lucas supplied many different models of wiper-motor to British manufacturers between the 1950's and the 1970's. Typical model numbers are CR, DL2, DR3. The second letter 'R' or 'L' shows if it's for a wire- Rack or a uses arm-Linkage.

Remember that your car may not be fitted with it's original motor and the part-number on the motor may not really help you.

These motors share many common parts and over the years it's common to find that alternative parts have been fitted.  This can create some puzzling effects.

I have original Lucas manuals and lists showing what was originally used.

Apart from selecting the right model, DR2 DR3A etc, you must ensure its fitted with a gear wheel that gives the correct angle of "sweep" across the screen.

I have gears to suit all the usual sweep angles and can help if your blades like to go off the screen. This is a common problem.

All these motors use a separate field-winding and this permits some speed upgrade to suit current driving conditions.

The motors that "reverse-park" the blades are complicated and less reliable than the simple types. The wiring is a puzzle and there are plenty of other things for you to get wrong. If you have trouble with one of these send a message and get some free a

Motors  marked B90,  often without any other part-number, are Lucas exchange units that were factory rebuilt. They are in effect new service-spares and turn up mostly in unused condition, but sometimes showing some corrosion due to long-term storage.  I often buy these and re-finish paint, plating and other cosmetic details.

They were supplied originally minus the gear wheel and you had to swap it from an existing motor. Normally I fit a 120 or 130 degree to suit "sports-car" use. Typically saloons used 150 degree sweep, but not always. 

In many cases I build motors to suit cars for which motors are rare or hard to find.
Lotus Elan and XK Jaguars are a typical example. I have spare parts to enable this.

I am using a much higher standard of finish and sealing against water entry than originally because I feel this suits classic-car use. Try as you may, your classic will get wet and then stand about a while, before being used again!
