Here is a quick guide to how to get started on your way to getting your HGV - LGV license.
Stage 1 - Book and take a medical with your doctor - You will need to print off the medical form from the DSA website and take that with you for you and your doctor to fill in.
Stage 2 - Apply for your HGV/LGV provisional ( if you dont already have one ) you will need to send your license and medical forms with this. Take a photo copy of your license and other documents in case they get lost in the post.
Stage 4 - Book your part 1 of your HGV/LGV Theory Test ( this is the 100 question part )
Stage 5 - Once you have past the part 1 Theory then book the part 2 section which is the Hazard Perception video clips.
Stage 6 - Once you have passed the above then make contact with a training school. Most of then will offer you an assessment and then give you a rough idea of how many hours/days you will need to try and pass you Practical HGV test.
Stage 7 - The Practical test is made up of 2 set tests in the grounds of the test centre. Firstly the reversing and then the controlled stop. Once these have been done in a safe and controlled manner then you will continue out of the test station to complete aprox a 1 hour drive.
The main thing to remember is that they are looking for you to drive in a safe and controlled manner towards both yourself and other road users.
Hope this helps.
