How To Measure An Awning For a Touring Caravan

The proper awning size of your caravan is the "A-A" measurement, as shown in the picture above.

This is very easily done, preferably with 2 people, with the caravan level and on a flat surface.

Run a length of string from the ground, around the awning channel to the ground at the other end of the caravan.

Lay the string out flat and then accurately measure it in centimetres (cms).

This will be the size of awning you require for your caravan.

Most awning makers have sizes in ranges. For instance, you may measure your awning as 934 cms. A maker may offer a 950 which is 925-950 range. Another maker will offer a 960 which is 930-960 range. The size ranges may differ slightly, but the princinple is still the same and as long as your new awning size is within the size range you buy, it should fit properly, not too tight and not too loose.

To be absolutely sure, now that you are armed with the exact measurement of awning you require, a dealer will be able to easily and confidently advise you on what size range of a particular make to buy and you are less likely to make an expensive mistake.

I hope this guide helps you to confidently choose the correct size awning for your caravan.
