How to Fix a Clogged Shower Head

[Fix a clogged shower head] Does the water from your shower head seem to be flowing slowly?

Remember it providing a more invigorating soak?

If this sounds familiar, then chances are you’ve got a clog.

Why has my shower head become clogged?

This is often a result of limescale and calcium deposits settling on your shower head.

Although not harmful, if riddled with deposits it will slow the flow of water.

What you’ll need:

White Vinegar
Hot Water
A Bag
A Toothbrush
An Elastic Band

The high level of acidity found in vinegar will naturally break down mineral deposits which will allow your shower head to work to its full capacity.

Time Taken:

Preparation: 10 minutes.
Standard Clean: 4 Hours
Deep Clean: 24 Hours.

Method:

1. Carefully unscrew the shower head from the hose (If it’s fixed to the wall, then skip this step).

2. With a toothbrush, gently wipe away any existing sediment.

3. Create a solution of 1 part vinegar to 8 parts hot water.

4. Pour the solution into a bag.

5. Submerge the shower head into the mixture, ensuring the head is completely covered.

6. Place an elastic band around the bag to make sure it is sealed tight – This is especially important for ones fixed to the wall.

7. For a standard clean leave it for 4 hours, for a deep clean leave it for 24 hours.

8. With the toothbrush give the shower head a wipe once again to ensure all the deposits are gone.

Top Tips: [How to unblock your shower head]

You may need to separate the shower head and spray plate before beginning to ensure all areas are exposed to the cleaning solution.

Try to do this once a year to avoid it becoming clogged again.

Clean With Caution:

Although this will work wonders with most shower heads, always check the manufacturer’s cleaning guidelines first to ensure vinegar won’t harm it; the last thing you’ll want is to void your warranty.
