How to create your own style with Wedding Decoration

When it comes to decorating a Wedding Venue, it can be seen as quite a daunting task. You can spend a fortune paying someone else to come and set up and take down, having the same thing that hundreds of other people have had at their wedding and it doesn't feel personal to you.
I got married in September this year and one of the best feelings was seeing how the venue looked once it had been decorated knowing the love and attention that had gone into it. The day before the big day, myself and my (now) Husband, Parents, Bridesmaids and the Best man all came together and spent the afternoon putting everything up and making sure it was all in the right place. Of course there were a few big things that we paid to hire but the majority was made and displayed by those who mattered the most.

Here are my top tips when it comes to individual style;

Personalise - Having your name and the date of the wedding not only gives it that personal touch but also gives guests something to take away from the day. We had a sweet station and had personalised sweet bags as well as stickers which we wrapped round the love heart sweets. We also did personalised present bags for the Bridesmaids. Things like these are readily available online at relatively low cost.

Get everyone involved - If you have friends or members of your family that are good at making things-get them involved! Have a "crafternoon" with your Bridesmaids and make some handmade decorations. It is amazing what you can do with a few jars, lace and a glue gun! My father-in-law made the table centre pieces and they were a real talking point. Not only is this fun but it also a great way of Bridesmaids getting to know each other if they don't already.

Shop around - Take inspiration from Wedding fairs and magazines but don't feel you have to spend lots of money on decoration. Many small companies sell items online or many people sell their decorations as job lots for a reasonable price once their big day is over. You can then take this and customise to suit your style. Car boot sales are also good for a bargain.

Compliment the venue - When choosing your decoration, try and be sympathetic to the style of the venue. If you have chosen an old farmhouse for example, try and get items that compliment it. We had a converted farm building and had the Wedding Breakfast in the "Pig Sty". For decoration we had wooden pigs as centre pieces and wooden boxes with moss. We also named the tables after breeds of pigs.

Enjoy it! - Finally, and the most important, just enjoy the whole process and make sure that everything you choice is special to you.
