How Effective is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture has been around for thousands of years; constantly evolving through the times and various types of diseases that arise; wondering if acupuncture works or if it is even effective in today's time is not the right question - the question is, is there a good acupuncturist that is near you, that can make it work for your condition?

This is because acupuncture is an art just as much as it is a science - the effectivity of acupuncture depends on the practitioner of acupuncture; their knowledge and skillset, as well as the type of acupuncture they practice and studied.

The studies that have been done to prove acupuncture ineffective are based on the fact that needle going into the skin or points based on a chart and if this helps a condition - this is NOT what acupuncture is; yes, it does look like this from the outside inwards, but this is a premature way to look at it.

Firstly; acupuncture points are not fixed in one location. They actually move; only a real advanced acupuncturist can tell and see the movement of a point, and thus, increasing the effectivity of the treatment in the first place - not many people know how to do this, nor do they teach this in acupuncture schools; to learn this level of acupuncture, a doctor requires years of practice, and even then, may not know.

The reason for this is that, unlike the western world, the eastern world was founded on secrecy; everything about it, especially the know-how, was formed in secret, and was kept secret within families. It was not the system like western, where everything is centralized; where we have libraries and everyone can go and read the same knowledge - times were also different, so this is why the real knowledge of acupuncture is only understood to those who really study the old texts such as the nei jing - and with a teacher who really understands it.

I had to get this cleared, because many people seem to think that because of one or two studies saying acupuncture is not effective, does not mean anything other than the lack of the particular doctor's ability and understanding. It's like test driving a car with less petrol/gas versus another with more petrol/gas - and seeing which one takes you further. It just depends on the amount of fuel inside the car and the way it consumes the fuel, i.e the know how.
