J.U.L.I.A

Since I didn't originally buy my versions of J.U.L.I.A off eBay I cannot write a review about but I can tell you what it's like to play the game and roughly what's involved.

I'm not one of these people who plays certain games and then leaves bad comments because a certain game didn't come upto expectations as I like think that I'm an all rounder when it comes to PC games from UT99, Quake 1 & 2 not much for Quake 3 just couldn't quite get into it, to the Tycoon series games like Theme park, Transport and so on plus I like my adventure type of games I'm not all for blood and guts and having originally started in computer with a Commodore Vic 20 I've been around games for some time and of all types.

So J.U.L.I.A or Julia as we will call her as I'm not going to write her name with capitals and punctuations everytime yes I've played it this week 13/04/2012 and it was completed the same day took O' about 3 hours it actually took longer but it crashed first time round so had to re-play the game again but yes completed within 3 hours and was it really worth the money I paid "NO, zero, zilch, nadda".

So why wasn't it worth the money I paid for it well the game is advertised on eBay for about £14.00 I paid £18.00 shopping in one of my local shopping centres in the UK now I didn't go out and buy the game specifically I was just browsing one of the stalls in the market place and thought space, planets this could be good and at £18.00 and also on DVD it must be something special so I bought it.

Now when a game is put onto a DVD you would naturally expect it to have excellent computer graphics, loads of action, plenty of adventures and be up there with any game that's on a DVD that's worth putting onto such a disc and coupled with the price this has to be a good game but sadly it's not.

So what are you getting for your money if your under 12 years of age probably a game worth playing but it's not suitable for under 12's it's rated 12 contains bad language some what very mild and mostly punctuated as in $%^&*(£" if you get my meaning and contains violence as in a robot called Mobot getting it's head pulled off three times in a repeated sequence by a monster that would be more at home in the game Dune pre-PC and more Commodore A600 and Commodore CDTV (yes I did have one of them and it's under the printer self as we speak) I will come to each of these in due course.

J.U.L.I.A or Julia as I said I'd call her is a computer on board a space ship some light years from planet earth on a mission to visit a planet that turns out to be nothing more than a desert but while it's in the solar system of where it is there are other planets that you get to visit including a hidden planet.

The game is set in the year 2430 an elite group of scientists are sent off on mankind's most excited mission: to explore the first ever discovered extra-terrestrial life-forms or ET to you and me.

After a long journey, Astrobiologist Rachel Manners suddenly awakes from a cryogenic sleep to find out she is the only human survivor of her team. To make things worse, their giant space ship, currently orbiting an unknown planet in a far-off solar system, is severely damaged.

Together with her now only companion - Julia, the spaceship's very temperamental artificial intelligence system, and Mobot (the robot), a huge reconnaissance robot.
Rachel must now solve the mysteries of the events on board the space vessel, repair it and explore the unknown planet. The above is taken from the DVD case.

Key Features:

>Step into the spacesuit of Rachel Manners and find out why she was the sole survivor of this ill-fated expedition.

>Utilize an ingenious Mobot (the Robot) a mobile robot designed for planetary exploration.

>Solve the mystery of the mission's failure and locate the missing crew.

>Travel to six unique planets  (including a hidden one so actually seven) and uncovers their secrets.

You don't actually step into the Rachel's spacesuit as Rachel never leaves the spaceship and regarding Rachel herself well she's just a badly graphic-ed character that sort of resembles Pinocchio from the Walt Disney film and she's always in the small box at the top of the screen the game is mostly a conversation between Mobot the robot , Julia and Rachel and sometimes a person voices speaks out with what's being said on screen and that person speaking sounds like they are talking through a cardboard tube into a oil drum just for added echo effects.

Plenty of simple puzzles that will keep the average 5yr old busy for 10 minutes until the next puzzle comes along and regarding graphic game play well I'm sorry to say there's none at all or what bit there is isn't worth dancing about.

I'm quite disappointed in this game as it just doesn't give you that bit of oomph that you'd get from a puzzle based adventure if the game had several solar systems to visit it might have been better but it just lacks at everything graphics, action what bit there is, adventure, game play of course there's interactive parts but it still doesn't grasp the player into the game as you spend more time listening whats going on that actual game play.

I stated it has bad language what bit there is isn't really worth noting as I've heard 10yr old coming out with more abusive language than this game could ever muster and regarded violence well you get to see Mobot the robots head being ripped if that the word you could use off his body three times in one part of the game fight Xir (Ker-she-a) and that part really drags on I thought at one point I had died as I was bored to death.

So regarding a star rating 5 being excellent and 1 being cr*p I'm sorry to say and very well over joyed to give this really rubbish game a -2 (yes you read it right a minus 2) why it's rubbish, a complete waste of money (I mean if you bought this game in a few months time at a car boot for a £1.00 I'd say your still being robbed at that) it lacks everything and to put it on a DVD that speaks a big install and loads of everything this just doesn't have it.

So the only way your going to find out if what I'm saying is true is to go out and buy it and waste your money and after playing it think that was a waste of money spent I want ma refund.
