You do not need a Single Vehicle Approval Test for a previously registered vehicle in the UK. This is for either imported or amateur built vehicles and those cobbled together from used parts. Some people on eBay try to say you need one after converting your own vehicle to run on LPG which is not true. Of course it makes sense to have the conversion safety checked by a qualified converter and some insurance companies insist on it, but this does not cost the £80 to £120 I have seen quoted for an unnecessary SVAT Certificate. The installation just needs to be safe. As for avoiding congestion charges it only applies under certain rules which you will find on the Powershift website. Look for the Powershift Register.
