A massage is a good way to relieve stress, improve blood circulation and relax totally, using either a massage oil or oil combined with a few drops of aromatherapy oils.

However there are times when a massage is quite dangerous and should not be attempted.  Most of these 'contraindications' are listed below (but may not include all of them):

  • Broken bones/fractures
  • Blood clots
  • Diabetes
  • Varicose veins
  • Phlebitis
  • Cancer
  • Recent operations
  • Recent scar tissue
  • Inflamed areas
  • Contagious skin conditions
  • Bruising
  • Lumps or bumps of unknown origin
  • First 16 weeks of pregnancy.
  • Some heart conditions.

If in doubt, consult with a doctor.
