You may be already be aware of the following scam, but though it was worth posting it on as I'd hate any of my fellow ebayers to get caught out....

If you receive a phone call on your mobile from any person, saying that, he or she is a company engineer, or telling you that they're checking your mobile line, and you have to press #90 or #09 or any other number.

End this call immediately without pressing any numbers. There is a fraud company using a device that once you press #90 or #09 they can access your "SIM" card and make calls at your expense. Forward this message to as many colleagues, relatives and friends as you can, to stop it.

from the Crime Reduction Advisor from the local police force:

Thousands of mobile phones are lost or stolen each year in the UK. All mobile phones have a unique 15 digit number, to obtain this number from your phone press *#06#  the number will appear on your screen, write this number down. Then if you report your phone stolen or lost both the SIM card and handset will be blocked and will be unable to be used by any other person.
