Whilst watching the BBC's Saturday kitchen one weekend James Martin the presenter was using a potato ricer to make mashed potatoes. The following Monday I ordered a sample from my supplier and used the day I received it. Boiled my spuds, put them through the ricer added butter, milk and salt and pepper. I had being trying for a while to improve my mashed potato. I was amazed at the difference this gadget made. No lumps at all and so easy to use with a piping bag for serving and the top of my shepards pie. Another tip is not to let the spuds boil and bubble to much. and let them cool a bit before ricing. A very simple but effective method.
