Postal orders v Paypal

Like if this guide is helpful
I usually pay for items using Postal orders, and sent to the seller using recorded delivery.

POs are a secure and a guaranteed method of paying for items, not needing to be cleared as Cheques have to be.
Paypal is subject to scams and mistakes and one only has to look at these forums to see that
Why then is it getting so difficult to pay for items using POs now.
I had an unfortunate experience today, my first since joining Ebay.

I wanted an item costing under £35, but this Manchester- based seller of DVD players & equipment who had "Paypal only" with the item I wanted, wrote and suggested  I could use a Postal Order, giving me his address to send it to, after I made an enquiry.

The full payment was sent. I was surprised to get the recorded delivery item back as "Refused" unopened.
I shall now have to return to the PO to get my money back, minus of course, the £3 fee for buying it.
Sellers are denying themselves a good reliable method of paying for purchases.
