Posting to China

I recently had an item bought from a person in China. Unfortunately, Paypal had accepted an address entirely in Chinese characters, and I didn't even know if it were Taiwan or PRC (Mainland China). I know there's some sensitive feelings about what is the "real" China so I didn't want to get it wrong! Googled the calligraphy and came up with a province north of Hong Kong, so knew it was mainland. Then wrote purchaser and asked for English translation (citing US postal authorities ignorance of Chinese). I received an address whose numbers were definitely in a different sequence than the English style. I then copied both addresses in large type and pasted them side by side on the envelope. My pleased customer received the item within a week!
