Hello and welcome to my guide. Here i will show you the most common ways to pick out a fake from the real thing, hopefully this will help you saving a few quid which otherwise could have been spent on a reproduction. This guide covers all officially made British Parachute Regiment                                                          cap badges made up until 1953.

1. This is the the most common thing to look out for. If you look at the circled area in the picture on the right you will see a small blob that sits underneath of the wing, this is a die flaw and is not seen on any known original Para cap badge.

2. Here is another thing to look out for, the tips of the wings never protruded out, exceptions could be made on originals if the badge has been misaligned and therefore resulting in being stamped incorrectly.

3. If you look at the feathers on a fake they are more squared off rather than than the originals which are more rounded.

4. This is a long debated subject that WWII para cap badges never had sliders, it is still uncertain but it is most likely true as collectors or museums are yet to show one from a Veteran and the fact that most of these cap badges have most of the traits of a fake cap badge means it might be best to stick to lugged examples.

5. This is a most recent copy that is doing the rounds and is by far the best so far. The only way to tell by picture is to look at the tip of the wings, they are too over exaggerated and are too flared out unlike the original, the feathers also are a lot different to the originals below will be a sided by side comparison to show.

Below is a side by side comparison showing the different patterns the fakes are trying to copy.

That is it, i hope this guide has helped you if so please vote thumbs up as the more it gets the more people will find it. Please don't forget to take a look at my other guides. If you have any badges i am always interested.
