What to look for in a laptop

Ebay has asked me to write a review in one of its promotions so here it goes...
The most hectic job for me is to find the next good value for money laptop for myself. I spend hours and hours on various forums and websites looking for the best model chosen by critics or reviewers. At times I love the laptop everyone is pointing at but what makes me take the decide against it. Well, the reviewers tend to review most powerful laptops and notebooks when they do their reviews. Even some laptop brands offer the famous review companies their top of the spec machines and it results in getting good results out of those machines.
So, I concluded that whenever I am going to buy a laptop it will be solely for my own personal needs rather than looking at something which is very powerful but is excess to my needs. Therefore, I would like to list what are the basic components one should look out for if their primary purpose of having a laptop is to use basic Microsoft package including MS Office, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint, MS Outlook; use it for entertainment such as browsing the Internet, watching a movie on a DVD or streaming it from online portals, interaction with family and friends on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc; and playing 2D and basic 3D games including online gaming etc.
The first thing one should focus on is the processor type. Nowadays, the top of the spec processors are the Intel i7 4th Generation that are very powerful processors and can do almost anything you want to do on your machines. However, for the basic needs mentioned above, a reasonable Intel i3 1st Generation to Intel i5 4th Generation processor is all you need. This will save you lots of money by avoiding the top of the range models and you do not have to sacrifice any of your needs at all.
Secondly, look out for memory. If you want to use your laptop for multitasking which is use your laptop for several tasks at a time then you should probably look for a laptop with at least 4 GB of RAM (Random Access Memory). It will be enough for your multitasking jobs and will save your laptop fan from making a lot of noise. Your laptop fan makes a lot of noise when the components get heated up. The components get heated up because they have to over perform the task. If you have enough memory then it gives relief to your laptop components, eventually the fan makes less noise.
Thirdly, look at the hard drive capacity. If you take lots of pictures, work on lots of documents, like to download songs, movies and games then I would suggest you at least have 250GB (Gigabyte) of hard disk space to cater for your entertainment and multimedia needs. However, the more is the better. Nowadays, one can easily find 500GB to 1TB (Terabyte) hard disk widely available. So, this category is a bit tricky as it depends solely on your personal needs. If you have lots of data in hand then off course you need a hard disk with bigger space. Alternatively, if you do not have much at hand then 160GB to 250GB is more than enough.
Fourthly, please take extra care when it comes to the operating system. As the operating systems become obsolete in a very short period of time, especially with Microsoft, always buy machine that has the latest version or a very recent version of operating system installed on it, or opt for the one widely used. For example nowadays Windows 7 is very popular whereas Windows XP has become obsolete (Microsoft has stopped producing Windows XP).
Last but not least, the screen size. Again, this category is entirely on ones own personal choice. If you are a gamer or like to watch lots of movies then I would suggest you go for bigger screens with at least 15.6 inch screen size in mind. If you are looking for a laptop to be used on the go or as a business machine then anything between 12 inch to 14.1 inch is better suited to your needs. I believe anything below 12 inch becomes very small and you will find it very difficult to work on tasks on such a small screen.
Although, each one of us has our own perception of what we need to buy, the above mentioned points are the most basic points that are relevant to just anybody looking for a new or used laptop and can help them in making a good decision about buying the correct machine for themselves.
