Great look at both Dave Scotts and Alexei Leonovs early careers. Although we get a better more in depth look at Scotts life as an astronaut I found Leonovs no less interesting. I really bought this book to find out Dave Scotts side of the stamps fiasco that followed Apollo 15. But Dave Scott gives us a really good summary of his career and training both for Gemini and Apollo and a real sense of what real life was like for the astronauts during the late 60's and ear 70's. The real surprise about this book was Leonovs accounts of his missions and the whole Soviet set up on the run into the Apollo Soyuz project. Its interesting to note that the Russians had full access to all the Time magazine and US press accounts of their opposite numbers across the iron curtain where as the Americans had very few accounts of the cosmonauts of the same era. However they did meet from time to time at air shows and other public events and Dave Scott gives a very good account of these meetings. All in all I found it a great read and a lot less dry than some of the other astronaut biographies.Read full review
