This antenna does what it’s intended to do. That is: it’s a 19.5 inch, ¼ wave, dual band mag mount mobile antenna that hit’s repeaters on both vhf and uhf within reasonable distances (20-30 miles depending on terrain) extremely well. The magnet is 3 ½” in diameter and is very strong, able to easily withstand high freeway speeds. It’s well built and sturdy, and will stand up to rubbing against some lower lying branches and moderate grazing of an overhead garage door. At the price, it’s a real bargain, and will perform at least as well, and usually better, than anything else in this category. It has a 12 foot pl-259 coax cable, so, depending on the size of your vehicle, you may need a 3 foot extender to place it correctly on the vehicle roof. Recommended.

This is my third Tram antenna. The first was supposed to be a 10M but would only tune to a very small portion of 11M, But that's OK. It was cheap and I was able to use the housing for a 70CM J-Pole. The other Tram was identical to this and it worked OK, not great, but again, cheap. I gave it away with a cheap disposable Chinese dual band radio I picked up for travel. Well, its time to travel again, so I picked up another QYT radio and this antenna so I won't have to worry about my Kenwood getting stolen from the rental car. Will probably leave it all with a local radio club when we wrap up our trip.

I was worried about not having enough coax, but I had enough+ some to spare. I run a trunk mag mount and wanted to hide the wires to my console in the middle of the front seats. The antenna it’s self does well with both 2 m and 70 cm bands, allowing me to hit repeaters 15-20+ miles out. I’ve also tried it as a base station antenna since i can’t put up an antenna outside due to homeowners association, and I can hit repeaters 20+ miles. I would recommend this to any new ham who is not sure.

This antenna is everything claimed! I did some research on Youtube, and all the reviews that I found gave this one stellar recommendations. Tram can add me to the list of happy customers. So far I have noticed ~10 miles added to my reception range from the (albeit much poorer quality) antenna that this one replaced. Very happy with this purchase.

I used to run one of them cheap quarter sized magnetic type antenna's on my car. Then, the coax ripped out of the base... cheap garbage. I then researched the web, and found great reviews of the Tram 1185... Had to buy one, and see for myself. WOW! It performs like I have a big amplifier! It really surprised the heck out of me. Got about 30 bucks invested in this setup, and worth EVERY dollar I spent. High quality!! 5 stars!!!!! :)
