The death of Katherine of Aragon, and Henry Fitzroy. Anne Boleyn's downfall and the very public challenge to Henry's image as the virile king that followed it. Henry III's marriage to Jane Seymour. The Pilgrimage of Grace. These were all events that shaped the history of England, but they were also, as Suzannah Lipscomb argues, a personal turning point for Henry VIII. She makes a convincing case. The book is well written and nicely structured. It should be an easy book for everyone to read and enjoy, even those not particularly well-versed with Henry's history. If I have one criticism, I would have liked to see more detailed references to enable readers to follow up on the questions raised should they wish to do so.
