Very fine antique oil painting on board, showing this famous Scottish landmark - Castle Campbell. The castle was built in the 15th century and was home to the earls of Argyll. Superbly painted, the work dates to the 19th century and is titled and inscribed verso, possibly with an artists name or former owners. The painting came from a house in Northumberland. Painted with great finesse, the work shows detail and lovely light.
The painting is overall good decorative order but has deep and heavy pitting and cracking to the paint. Recently varnished, the work has paint loss and markings to the outer edges, presumably from an old frame removal. Provenance: private collection, Northumberland
