I've used these rods before, but with mixed results. But I finally found how to use them properly, I needed to heat the area twice as long as I had been and then the rods really bond with the aluminium - hell, some of the joins looked neat ! Complex pieces can be trickier and need to be heated for even longer, aluminium conducts heat very well. so quickly takes heat away from the area. The joins are very strong and don't give even when the rest of aluminium is bent. Very pleased with the results.

My home but good blow torch could not get the metal hot enough. You must get the metal you wish to join or fill hot enough to get the rods to melt. I could not do this on a motrbike swing arm. On small metals that contain heat, it should work. if you heat the rods with your flame it will not join with the metal, and you will not be able to drill into with out it falling out. Yes, I got fed up and was willing to try anything, to my cost of £20.
