I was very selective on weight and balance and this one nailed exactly the Steely Dan tone and balance I wanted. Hammered just right. Really low overtones in a sound controlled studio like mine but increase nicely in acoustic & live. I will use this on the gigs where I can express that jazzy and Steely Dan sound both acoustic and live micing. I literally put on the headset of all the songs from Steely and was able to grab all the tones in them from the way you strike the cymbal and bell and different sticks uses. I had to pull myself off the kit I enjoy it so much. The control is perfect. The bell on mine is dry but not so dry and this the entire cymbal Zildjian hammered them perfectly. The weight is also a big factor in that. You want to be around 2300 grams to get a more ping out of the bell. The heavier the more ping but too heavy will stray away from the ride tone you may not want to have. No two cymbals are alike but similar weights make them closer to each other. Mine nailed it. Thanks Zildjian you did it again.Read full review

I have been using a 20" Zildjian K Custom Dark Ride for sometime. I really like the cymbal. It sounds just like a ride cymbal should for most application. But I wanted a more dark complex ride sound for various jazz gigs. I recently bought a 21" Zildjian K Custom Special Dry Ride. It is just what I was looking for. Defined stick definition with slight wash, a short dark crash, and complex overtones that do not build up. It reminds me of the cymbal sounds from the recordings of jazz legends. It has a lot of color possibilities depending on stick tip shape, material and playing area. I'm not saying this is an everyday go-to ride cymbal. That I reserve for the K Custom Dark Ride. But for a vintage jazz sound the K Custom Special Dry Ride fits the bill.
I am glad to own the Dry Ride, but, I wouldn't recommend the Dry Ride for a beginner at all. This cymbal is very dry with almost no overtones or build up. Very good stick definition. It is great for acoustic music or jazz because it also is not a very loud cymbal. I love it, I love my new son. Real seriuos merchant. All in time and safe.
Dry, defined sticking. Quick shoulder tones and a dry, sharp bell. This one can keep up with the sticking!
