I have read every book of Kathy's prior to this, in order, my son bought me the first three for christmas and I was hooked after book one. I love Kathy;s use of language and humour co-existing with researchable science and humanity. If every pathologist, coroner, anthropologist has half her dedication and compassion then rest assured in death there is dignity. I am now on the most recent Mortal Remains or Spider Bones, why two different names I am unsure. Sometimes we don't need to re read the career and work load which is mentioned in all books so far, however, I think its handy if you have not read the previous books to know how this character operates. Considering the authors career in Anthropology and work commitments, being such a fantastic researcher and author is outstanding, and now with co writing "Bones" for TV its a wonder how she fits it all in and still delivers but she does. I have long since read an entire series of books as the same author can be tedious and repetitive and although Kathy's books follow a similar line, each is individual and well accomplished. Never the less there is the usual "life in danger and don't know why" add ons which after book one you can work out will all be OK in the end, especially considering there is another book to follow. Very James Bond there. 206 bones is incredibly well thought out, referring to the number of bones discovered at a crime scene. With this book unlike the others there is more to do with team, and again, this is quite predictable although I got the "who did it" wrong I was on the right lines. Kathy's characters are very well thought out and give themselves visualisation and depth, we have all met these characters in life. Its hard to believe at times these are fiction as knowing the authors background, you'd be forgiven they are based purely on fact, although I'm aware there some factual element to all her books. 206 bones is very clever and well rounded, and this is her first book where we have split scenes from the beginning marrying into a very tense although slightly obvious conclusion. There is never too much over gravity to the scenes and in this case less is more due to the nature of the victims. Again we have the good old love interest of the same detective as before although now things are rocky, and even now I cant work out which way it'll go, we'll have to wait till the final Dr Brennan book I think before we'll know for sure, I love her cat "Birdie" who makes another obligatory entrance but this takes back to the reader that this woman is normal, has bills, cleaning, shopping and a life outside the lab, although she must be minted with all the eating out she does, but then again I'm English and this is an expensive country, eating out is a luxury even to a greasy spoon! Books are there to engage and fulfil our imagination, Kathy certainly does this, her Dr Brennan books are like a written soap opera in a way, believable escapism. I only hope that after reading this last one, there will be more. 206 bones the next instalment in the life of Dr Temperance Brennan, Forensic Anthropologist working between Charlotte USA and Montreal Canada. Getting a call regarding the recovery of a body, Temp rescues the bones for inspection, 206 are recovered, but then, some important bones, the only ones relating to identification are missing, how? why? who? split with scenes of live burial and you've got a smoking book in your hands. Good luck putting it downRead full review
I read every Kathy Reichs story, I love the realism which comes from her experiences, her stories are very descriptive and quite often from the description you can feel and smell the scenario, you're literally transported into the story. I just can't put her books down and frequently take just a few hours to read the entire thing. Thank Heaven for Kathy Reichs, her Forensic Anthropology knowledge and her talent for writing..
A very good read, but I like all Kathy Reichs books. Better than CSI on TV. Easy to get into and follow the story with everything explained.
