I imported this Ford Freda (or Mazda Bongo with a different badge) myself in 2005 and we've Bongo'd all over the country in it. It's the 2.5TDi engine and is an automatic, like most of them are. It's a two wheel drive Freda so benefits from better MPG. I know as I now have an AWD Bongo and it drinks diesel!

In late 2010, it decided to have difficulties starting and when it did start, it was very smoky. A local garage had a looksy at it and diagnosed a knackered turbo, so I bought and fitted one. The problem was still there so I then fitted a new set of injectors which cured the problem. In the meantime, my new AWD Bongo had arrived from Japan so this one got forgotten about for a month or two until it ran out of MOT. Then I moved house and left the Freda in a barn for a while. Just before Christmas I brought the Freda to my new house. I fitted a new battery and it started first time and drove the 6 miles here no problem.

I intended to get it MOT'd, polished up and sold but never got around to it. To take it for an MOT I'll need to insure it and I really havn't got the time or enthusiasm to do it so here it is!

There's no reserve but the bidding starts at £600.

Bullet points so it's easy to see stuff!

Good bits:

  • It's tidy enough.
  • The Auto-freetop is in excellent condition and works as it should.
  • Privacy glass, window blinds, rear screen curtain and curtain rails in the front.
  • Colour coded front bumper.
  • Most of the stuff works (see bad bits below).
  • It's fairly economical.
  • Has a radio casette AND a CD/DVD player installed but you'll need to add your own screen! I used a £20 7" screen off ebay!
  • It's big inside. Just Google Mazda Bongo and you'll see how the insides work.
  • It seats eight adults and has seatbelts to suit.
  • The rear-most seats fold up to the side to give a huge 'boot'.
  • The middle row of seats fold down to make a table and slide back and forth to give more space in the rear.

Bad bits:

  • There's a couple of scabby bits of rust on the bodywork. Nothing a rub down and tickle with a bit of paint wouldn't fix.
  • The wheel arches are also scabby. Again, they're not needing new arches, just a bit of TLC.
  • The paint on the sills is also a bit flakey (there's a pattern here), but just need a bit of wire-brush and paint.
  • The reversing mirror is with the Freda but the glass is cracked. New ones are available.
  • Rear wiper doesn't work as the wire to the tailgate has broken.
  • The vehicle has steel wheels fitted with worn snow tyres on them. I'd just fitted the alloys with £400s worth of new tyres and didn't want to give them away so swapped them!
  • The space-saver spare tyre is flat. It will blow up but goes down over a month or so.
  • When I started the vehicle to move it to wash the dust and leaves off it, it was a bit smoky. I left it running for a few minutes and it cleared up but just to let you know!
  • The exhaust had the middle bit replaced with a piece of tube as it fell to bits whilst on holiday just before I took it off the road, so budget for a new one!
  • Currently, the Freda is full of music stands and violins. These will be removed before the auction ends!

So there we have it. Please come and have a look at the Freda as I don't want any winning bidders to start whittering about the poor old girl. You bid to buy etc. I'll answer any questions as honestly as possible. I'm selling this as a project or for spares as I havn't been right underneath to give it a thorough check over. Again, if in doubt, please come and have a look!

Boring bits!

I don't want to swap your great Aunt Marthas solid gold sofa for the Freda, nor do I feel the need for you to pay me in South African cocoa mine shares. In fact, cash will do nicely. You can pay by cheque or bank transfer but all funds will have to be cleared before the Freda leaves here. I'll be wanting a £50 deposit via Paypal within 24hrs of the auction ending unless otherwise agreed with myself. If you want to pay the whole amount via Paypal, then you can 'gift' me the money so you pay the fees!! If you have less than 5 positive feedback please get in touch before you bid otherwise your bid will be cancelled. We all have to start somewhere but there are a lot of numpties around and I'd rather they didn't mess around with my listing! Don't wait too long to start bidding as I reserve the right to remove it from the auction if the right offer comes along!

Finally, feel free to message me through Ebay or contact me on 07939 112203 and leave a message if I don't answer. I work shifts so will return any calls or messages as soon as possible.

Good luck folks!

On 26-Mar-12 at 20:34:23 BST, seller added the following information:

635 page views and 66 watchers!! I wonder how many of those are other folks with Bongos who are curious as to how much mine will make??

Anyhoo, I've had six folks come to look at the Freda. Four have made me offers and two have asked for a buy it now price. And there's another blokey coming in the morning. I've told folks that I'll end the auction for £1200 or take a gamble that it will make at least that by Wednesday night. I've also had a few requests for spares off the Freda, but I'm selling it complete. I don't have the time or space to strip it for spares.

The Freda is now free of violins and music stands......

Don't leave it to late to bid! I may still chicken-out and end early!!

Good luck fellow Bongonauts (or is that Bongoliers?)
