I'm not a serious electronics person but still needed something decent. After previous experience with fixed temperature cheap soldering irons not getting hot enough or being too hot, I came across this station from bigclivedotcom. The station is perfect for simple integrated circuits for hobbyists and simple electrical repair. The device comes fitted with a UK plug and is fused. There are a variety of tips provided to suit almost all applications. For the price I cannot fault it. The advantages are: Well built, Adjustable temperature, A variety of tips, Sturdy holder, Plenty of cable, Good thermal capacity, Suits almost all applications in terms of amateur electrical repair and electronics kits. The disadvantages are: The tips are small (don't expect to solder thick wire with this or large electrical components) The holder rusts from the wet sponge just after a few hours. For the price though you cannnot complain, i recommend this for any electronics hobbyist or someone just getting into soldering.Read full review

Works ok, but not super quality. But its cheap and cheerful for occasional use. Dont expect any durability if in everyday use though. I have gone through three of these so am qualified to make this statement. Pro use?...Buy a Weller.

This is one of the good options for a soldering iron, I bought this after searching youtube for a new soldering iron and came across bigclivedotcom, the soldering iron is good value, however you should consider changing the plug on the end for one that doesn't have a shielded earth cable, also check inside that the earth connections are tight and they are not loose. Other than that there are no problems with this iron, heats up quickly can sustain heat when soldering multiple connections. Also comes with lots of different tips to use.

Great price and a decent piece of kit but I did have a couple of minor issues. A replacement plug is provided in the box, not a big deal to change it over. The box on mine was pretty badly damaged prior to dispatch. And it had a very strong oily smell coming from the device. It has dissipated now but it was quite bad out of the box. The station itself works great, some proper Hakko tips to replace the provided ones would be a good idea. Overall though, well worth the price!

The soldering station it self performs very well and is nicely built but there are some important safety issues with it. The station is sold as having a UK plug so one would assume they mean BS1263 that complies with British standards but sadly this is not the case. the plug fitted has a sleeved earth pin mean the when used with the majority of BS1263 sockets the unit is not earthed thus posing an electric shock risk and a risk of death should a fault arise.I would strongly advise anyone whom buys this to fit the correct BS1363 plug before plunging it in. The second issue is that the earth lug inside the unit is not always tightened down on to the transformer this can also cause an inherent risk of death. This is not an isolated problem as i have 6 of these units and they all had the faults. So only buy if you are competent with electrical safety.Read full review
