MG Bass

String Configuration:

4 String

Neck Material:

Magnesium Alloy

Body Material:

In 1986 this is what the future looked like: DeLoreans could fly, basses were made out of magnesium alloy and fiberglass.

Of course you've heard of DeLorean, McFly! But what about Staccato? I bet your drummer has. Like North Drums, Staccato was a little British company that made a name for itself painstakingly making out of fiberglass the oddest drums you've never seen. But founder Pat Townshend's real passion was to make truly great and equally odd guitars. And with the financial backing of a little band called the Rolling Stones, his dream became a reality for a short while (about 200 instruments worth between 1985 and 1987). Staccato players included Mick Jagger, Bill Wyman, Gene Simmons of Kiss, and Lemmy of Motorhead.

The Staccato MG bass features a magnesium alloy neck-through-body core elegantly mated to an ergonomic fiberglass shell with four Allen screws, much like a Travis Bean. Unlike the Travis Bean design, however, the Staccato's strings don't have to come off to detach the body and all of the goodies therein are attached directly to the neck core. The fingerboard is made of industrial plastic. The tuners are at the body in Steinberger headless fashion.

This 1986 Staccato MG bass is all original, serial number 061/43. The electronics are active and colorful. The finish on the metal parts is thoroughly checked but stable, and there has been some paint loss and flaking predominantly on the body core. The Staccato logo on the body also appears to have been touched up where the finish is worn between the E and A strings. The back and sides of the neck too are not without their battle scars through to the white primer below. Also missing the strap button from the upper horn. It looks like a weapon and it sounds like a weapon, yet the extreme body contours are very comfortable to the touch.

I have done my best to supply numerous photographs of this instrument in natural sunlight from all possible angles, inside and out. Please examine the pictures carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to bidding.

Will ship in the pictured non original hardshell case fully insured via Japan Post Express Mail Service (EMS). Bidders to pay exact shipping costs; buyers outside the US please contact me for international quotes. Japanese buyers are responsible for the 5% sales tax.
