I read reviews of this stand and similar stands elsewhere, and they suggested this one was a bit better, albeit at quite a lot higher price. With a discount voucher I decided to try the Toolcraft 826054. It's OK. The swan neck holding the lens is a bit weak so it tends to droop a bit, I'll fit an extra support to get round this but at the price I'd expect better. The rest of it is OK, though again for the premium price I had hoped for better. The lens quality is very good, with little distortion even right at the edges, so top marks for that. The illumination is also very good. the clips and support bars work fine, these things are always a balance between robustness and delicacy, these are probably about right for most electronic assembly type work. I'm pretty sure you could swap the iron holder and the small flexible stem over left/right if you are left handed, the fixings into the base appear symmetrical. The solder reel holder is a useful feature and fits most reels. The stand is just about heavy enough for good stability. It'd be easy to attach more weight if you felt it needed it. Overall it is a resonably good tool, but really not worth the money. At around half the price it would probably get 4 or 5 stars, but the value for money drops it down to a 3 star in my opinion. I'd have to be able to compare it directly to the cheaper versions to really be able to say whether it's worth spending the extra. I can't say I'm actually disappointed, I was just hoping for something a little more impressive at the price. Read full review
