Being a radio DJ/speaker, drummer, guitarist and bass player in different bands for decades of my life, this time I needed a high quality headphones for rehearsal and practice work. I used to work with AKG microphones that was a real pleasure. Maximum reliability and sound quality, alongside with one of the best characteristic I ever heard. I based my decision of picking this product upon my previous AKG experiences and I have to say, yes, this is what I was looking for. Unique sound quality and appearance and very comfortable to wear even for long hour sessions. Do not buy these headphones if you expect a wonder plugging these to a laptop or cheap sound source. But linked to a high quality system (source, headphone amp etc) it makes the wonder happen. Highly recommended !

Top quality both in build and performance, the comfort level is amazing and sound quality is excellent. The memory foam cups are so comfortable you'll forget you have them on. Sound is best delivered through a dac/amp as the 62ohm impedance level means although you can drive them off your mobile devices you'll not get the best out of them and they take on a whole new level when paired up with a powered amp. If I had any negatives with these (and it's hard to find one!) the supplied cables though good quality are a little impractical the first is 9ft long and the second is a heavy coiled affair not suitable if you intend to use these away from a desk. New cables can be bought from around £15 though so not a big deal.

I'm a big fan of the AKG 700 series headphones. I also own the K701, K702 & Q701 all of which sound very similar. These K712's are an updated version with slightly fuller base but have the same sound signature. They are brutally honest and revealing. Well recorded albums from Miles Davies, Jack Johnston and Daft Punk for example sound amazing. However poor recordings sound bad as these headphones make no effort to hide such deficiencies. They also are quite insensitive despite having an impedance of only 62ohms and require a good headphone amp with low output impedance to sound their best. The soundstage is very wide which makes them great for gaming. The "attack" of these headphones are the sharpest I've ever heard which makes gunfire and explosions in games particularly impressive. I highly recommend them.Read full review

Large memory foam pads and sliding center strap make them very comfortable, and sound they produce makes you keep listening to songs you already know to see what detail did you miss. Rather warm, they don't cut any outside sounds and require some power to drive. Detachable cable socket is mini xlr. Mine was made in Slovakia.

A nice step up from the 701/702/7XX AKG headphones. These give more detail in the highs and mids along with more depth in the low end. To my ears with a good solid state amp and DAC a beautiful sounding headphone. It reacts well to a tube amplifier also. Build quality is better being the only one of the 7 series these days still being made in Europe, maybe not Austria anymore but still Europe.
