The sound on this condenser mic is amazing. As an Indie Filmmaker, we look for high value items with great quality. The AKG P220 delivers with crisp, studio sound. This is extremely important when doing voice over work. This is a great purchase to add to my sound gear (H4n, Audio Technica shotgun mic and multiple lav mics). I highly recommend for a great, clean sound. Excellent quality and uses phantom power. A+

When I received the mic, I immediately took it to a friend's recording studio. We set it up next to his extremely expensive studio condensor mic. With the mics on different channels on the board, we compared them for tone quality, volume, sensitivity and many things that he understood and I didn't. The AKG impressed the engineer and me as it responded equal to the other mic. I use it as an instrument mic for a mandolin in a bluegrass band and is is great. The case and shock mount are awesome.
I actually received an AKG Perception 200 and not a 220, but not much difference except for the 10db pad instead of 20db. This mic is great if you want a clean sounding audio for vocals, especially for its price. This is also great for the background vocals/backup singers and even for some instruments. If you want a mic that adds "color" or character to the sound, especially for the lead singer, use a different mic like a real tube mic (or get a preamp/voice processor or you can also add character later in post if that's what you prefer). For instruments, I actually prefer small diaphragms instead of an LDC like this and for voice overs, I prefer the quiet NT1a which I will be buying to add to my own collection soon. So for starter budget mics that will be mainly used for vocals, I think this and the competing Audio Technica's are much better than those super cheap LDC below $100. It can still be used as a backup as you upgrade mics.Read full review
I had a Perception 200 already and wanted another condenser mic for my home studio. This mic is great for acoustic instruments and vocals. For the price I am very satisfied
