AMD Processors, usually cheaper that Intel ones, just as fast and last for ages. AMD's seem to go on forever, had Intel's die before now, so if you have an older PC swapping over to AMD could give it a new lease of life. Got this one to boost my now very old XP machine and I needed its XP 2000+ to fix another box, which, is now running very well. Standard Socket A so will fit a good number of Socket 462(A) Motherboards. To get the best out of this CPU you ideally need PC2700 memory, however, it runs XP SP3 OK with 1.7G of PC2100. Personally I like AMD processors and so far not had any issues with them, reliable, quick & good value for money, what more could you ask for? Next project, LINUX print & scanner server using a pair of AMD Sempron 2200's all for under £30 :-)
The AMP Athlon XP processors in their day were ahead of their Intel equivalents. Although just single core, any XP CPU rated 2Ghz is still capable of running a reasonable PC for word processing, spreadsheets, web browsing. Just don't try to do video editing, or run a resource hungry AntiVirus product, etc. Older CPU's, such as this XP2600+ 2Ghz+, provided they haven't been abused by overclocking, are usually a bargin and can keep older PC going for several years yet.
Good CPU. Runs stable at 2.08 Ghz and 2.2 Ghz. Has better chess benchmarks than a 3 Ghz Pentium Prescott. The AXDA 2600 DKV3C may be a touch quicker but it is relatively overpriced on Ebay. But buy with care as with all used CPU.
AMD PROCESSORS ARE BY FAR BETTER THAN INTEL'S. THIS PARTICULAR ONE WAS USED BY MYSELF TO UPGRADE AN OLD SYSTEM, WITH STUNNING IMPROVEMENTS IN THE LIKES OF WORLD OF WARCRAFT ETC. OVERCLOCKABLE TOO. WELL WORTH THE PRICE AND WILL PROBABLY LAST LONGER THAN ANY PENTIUM WOULD HAVE.
