I needed a cost effective upgrade for my aging PC. I built this machine around 4 years ago. It was based on AMD's AM2 Platform. I bought their fastest Chip avaiable at that time (AMD Athlon 6000 X2). This was an awesome chip. Did everything I needed it to do. (along with SLI nVidia graphics cards and 4gb of ram). Fast forward 4 years and that same chip isn't vary fast anymore. I have read about the AM2 boards supporting AM2+ Quad core chips with a simple BIOS flash. I decided to pull the trigger and buy the Phenom 9600. Price was right and install was easy. My Windows 7 Processor rating went from a 6.0 to a 7.1. I think I made the right choice!
This CPU is the max that my motherboard can handle. Wanted to breath some life into my system and it did. And I sure can't complain about the price. Happy customer.
