I am a true admirer of John le Carre and looked forward to reading this book. Unfortunately it is undoubtedly the worst of his books that I have tried to read, as I gave up half way through due to many factors. 1. The characters are one dimensional and come out as cardboard figures lacking any sympathy or understanding. 2. The plot is missing page turning qualities and woefully lacking interest. 3. The writing style needed more quality, as it makes the book appear to be done to please his bank balance and publisher, rather than his public.

A fascinating read if a little disjointed at times.
